Overview

Bangladesh, officially the People's Republic of Bangladesh, is a country located in South Asia. It ranks as the eighth-most populous country in the world, with a population of almost 176 million people, and is among the most densely populated nations, occupying an area of just 148,461 square kilometres (57,321 sq mi).

Geography and Borders

Bangladesh shares land borders with India to the north, west, and east, and with Myanmar to the southeast. To its south, the country has an extensive coastline along the Bay of Bengal. Although Bangladesh does not directly border Bhutan and Nepal, it is separated from them by the narrow Siliguri Corridor. Similarly, the Indian state of Sikkim lies between Bangladesh and China to the north.

Major Cities

Dhaka serves as the capital and largest city of Bangladesh, functioning as the nation's political, financial, and cultural centre. Chittagong is the country's second-largest city and hosts the busiest port in Bangladesh, playing a vital role in the nation's trade and economy.
