Wellington is a town in the Western Cape province of South Africa, located approximately 75 kilometres north-east of Cape Town. With a population of around 62,000, it is accessible by the N1 motorway and R44 route. The town now falls under the Drakenstein Local Municipality, which also administers the nearby towns of Saron and Paarl.
The local economy is primarily based on agriculture, with deciduous fruit, table grapes, wine and brandy production forming the main commercial activities. Wellington has experienced significant urban growth through the expansion of the Vlakkeland and Mbekweni township to its south, effectively merging it with Paarl, located just 10 kilometres away, to form a single urban unit.
