Morgantown is a city located in the state of West Virginia, United States. It serves as the county seat of Monongalia County and is situated along the Monongahela River near the border with Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 30,347, making it the third-most populous city in the state.

The city functions as a primary center for north-central West Virginia and serves as the anchor for the Morgantown metropolitan area, which has an estimated population of 140,000. It is notably home to West Virginia University, which is the state's flagship public research university.
