Fredericksburg is an independent city located in the state of Virginia, United States. Situated within the Washington metropolitan area, it lies approximately 42 miles (67 km) south of Washington, D.C., and 53 miles (85 km) north of Richmond.
As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 27,982. For statistical purposes, the Bureau of Economic Analysis combines Fredericksburg with the neighboring Spotsylvania County.
