Rome is a city located in Oneida County in the central region of New York State, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 32,127. It serves as one of the two principal cities within the Utica–Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The city is situated in an area known as "Leatherstocking Country," which gained historical prominence through James Fenimore Cooper's Leatherstocking Tales set during the frontier days preceding the American Revolutionary War. Politically, Rome is located within New York's 21st congressional district.
