Roswell is a city situated in the state of New Mexico, United States. It serves as the county seat for Chaves County and constitutes the primary hub of the Roswell micropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 48,422, making it the fifth-most populous municipality in the state.

The city is home to several notable institutions, including the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI), which was established in 1891, and a campus for Eastern New Mexico University. The surrounding region features natural landmarks such as Bottomless Lakes State Park, located approximately 12 miles east of the city, and the Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge, situated a few miles northeast along the Pecos River.
