Carlsbad is a city located in the southeastern region of New Mexico, United States. It serves as the county seat of Eddy County and functions as the primary city within the Carlsbad-Artesia Micropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 32,238.

The city is geographically situated at the intersection of U.S. Routes 62/180 and 285. Its location is characterized by its position across the Pecos River and its placement at the eastern edge of the Guadalupe Mountains.
