Columbus is a city located in the Mississippi region of the United States. It serves as the county seat of Lowndes County and is situated on the eastern border of the state.
The city is positioned primarily east, north, and northeast of the Tombigbee River, which constitutes part of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. Geographically, it is located approximately 146 miles northeast of Jackson, 92 miles north of Meridian, and 63 miles south of Tupelo.
In relation to the neighboring state of Alabama, Columbus is situated 60 miles northwest of Tuscaloosa and 120 miles west of Birmingham.
