Clarksdale is a city in Coahoma County, Mississippi, serving as the county seat. Located in the Mississippi Delta region along the Sunflower River, it had a population of 14,903 according to the 2020 census. The city was founded in the mid-19th century by John Clark, who established a timber mill and business there, and it developed into an agricultural and trading center.
Clarksdale holds significant historical importance in American music history. Many African American musicians developed the blues in the city and subsequently brought this original American musical form to Chicago and other northern cities during the Great Migration period.
