Saginaw is a city located in Saginaw County, Michigan, within the United States. It serves as the county seat and is situated along the Saginaw River. The city is part of the Greater Tri-Cities region of Central Michigan and was adjacent to Saginaw Charter Township at the time of the 2020 census.
The area has a long history dating back to the first recorded European visit in 1675. A permanent settlement was established in 1819, followed by the construction of Fort Saginaw and the official organization of Saginaw County in 1835. The city experienced significant growth during the lumber boom of the late 19th century, reaching a population of over 75,000 by 1884.
During the early 20th century, Saginaw became an industrial hub featuring coal mines, sugar beet factories, and automobile production. The region also developed aviation infrastructure, including the establishment of the first commercial airfield in 1927 and a pilot training field during World War II.
