Taunton is a city in Bristol County, Massachusetts, serving as the county seat. It is situated on the Taunton River, which flows through the city before reaching Mount Hope Bay approximately 10 miles to the south. As of the 2020 census, Taunton had a population of 59,408, making it the third most populous municipality in Bristol County, after New Bedford and Fall River.
The city is governed by Mayor Shaunna O'Connell and functions as the administrative center for Bristol County.
