Lexington is a suburban town located in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, in the United States. Situated approximately 10 miles from Downtown Boston, the town had a recorded population of 34,454 as of the 2020 census.
Originally inhabited by Native Americans, the area was first settled by Europeans around 1642 as a farming community. The town is historically significant as the site of the first shots of the American Revolutionary War during the Battle of Lexington on April 19, 1775. This event is famously associated with the phrase "the shot heard 'round the world."
Lexington is home to the Minute Man National Historical Park, which preserves the site's historical importance regarding the early stages of the American Revolution.
