Woodstock is a city located in the state of Illinois in the United States. It serves as the county seat of McHenry County and is situated approximately 51 miles (82 km) northwest of Chicago, where it functions as one of the city's outermost suburbs. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 25,630.
The city is recognized for its historic downtown district and turn-of-the-century town square. These areas are anchored by notable landmarks including the Old McHenry County Courthouse and the Woodstock Opera House. Due to these historical features, Woodstock was named one of the nation's Dozen Distinctive Destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 2007.
