Inverness is a city and the county seat of Citrus County in Florida, located in the west-central part of the state. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 7,543, representing a modest increase from 7,210 in 2010. Inverness is part of the Homosassa Springs, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The city is situated near the Flying Eagle Preserve, a 10,950-acre natural area in the region. As the county seat, Inverness serves as the administrative center for Citrus County government.
