Belmont is a city located in San Mateo County, California, within the United States. Situated in the San Francisco Bay Area on the San Francisco Peninsula, it lies approximately halfway between the cities of San Francisco and San Jose. The city sits on the northern edge of California's Silicon Valley.
The area was originally part of Rancho de las Pulgas, a historical land grant. This heritage is reflected in the naming of one of the city's primary roads, the Alameda de las Pulgas. Belmont was officially incorporated as a city in 1926. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 28,335.
