Bayside

United States

Bayside is an unincorporated community located in Humboldt County, California, in the United States. Situated at an elevation of 33 feet, it lies approximately 2.25 miles south-southeast of Arcata. The area serves as a geographic buffer between Arcata and the northward expansion of Eureka along US Route 101.

The region was historically characterized by vast stands of ancient Coast Redwood trees extending to the edge of Humboldt Bay. These forests made the location a primary site for early redwood lumber operations. While much of the land is now rural—featuring homes, small ranches, and second-growth forests—large stumps remain as evidence of the original extensive forest. The local landscape also includes hills that form the beginning of the Coast Ranges, where a rock quarry once supplied water for Arcata's early public water system.

Notable landmarks in Bayside include several Victorian-era houses located along Old Arcata Road, which served as the original main road connecting Arcata to Eureka. Additionally, Jacoby Creek flows from the hills toward the bay alongside a road of the same name.
