Eagle River is a community located within the Municipality of Anchorage in the state of Alaska. Situated along the Eagle River, the area lies between Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and Chugach State Park in the Chugach Mountains. It serves as an Anchorage suburb where many residents work and shop in the nearby Anchorage Bowl, while also functioning as a significant business hub for those traveling between Wasilla and Anchorage.
Originally settled by homesteaders, Eagle River was annexed into the Municipality of Anchorage during the 1970s. The community maintains a close relationship with its northern neighbor, Chugiak, and houses many residents from the nearby military base. Due to its size and economic activity, Eagle River would be among the five largest cities in Alaska if it were not part of the municipality.
