Al-`Ula

Saudi Arabia

Al-Ula is an ancient Arabian oasis city and governorate located in the Medina Province of Saudi Arabia. Situated in the Hejaz region, it lies approximately 350 kilometres northwest of the city of Medina.

The site holds historical significance as a former market city situated along the historic incense trade route. This trade network connected India and the Persian Gulf to the Levant and Europe. The region is notable for its association with both pre-Islamic Semitic civilizations and the history of Islam.
