Gradistea

Romania

Grădiștea is a commune in Ilfov County, Romania. Ilfov is the county that surrounds Bucharest, the national capital, and it is the only Romanian county without its own county seat, being administered from Bucharest itself.

The commune lies in the northern part of the county, in the plain north of Bucharest, and is made up of the villages of Grădiștea and Căciulați. It is one of the many settlements in Ilfov that historically were largely rural but, after the fall of communism, developed into commuter towns functioning as suburbs or satellites of Bucharest. Like other localities in the county, it has been affected by the continuing gentrification of Ilfov, where places such as Otopeni now record some of the highest GDP per capita levels in the country.

Grădiștea is served by road connections to Bucharest and to neighbouring communes in Ilfov, and its position within the county places it within the wider commuting zone of the capital.
