The name Gara Leu, meaning "Leu station," indicates the presence of a railway stop within the commune, a feature that has shaped the settlement's development and connected it to the wider regional network. Like many communes in Suceava County, Drăgușeni functions as an administrative unit grouping several small villages under a single local council. Detailed demographic, historical and economic information about the commune is limited in readily available sources.
