Călărași is a city in Botoșani County, in the historical region of Moldavia, north-eastern Romania. It is a small settlement and should not be confused with the larger city and county seat of the same name in southern Romania.
The city lies in the northern part of Botoșani County, in a rural area of the Moldavian plain. It is one of several localities in the county that share the name Călărași, and it functions as a local administrative centre for the surrounding commune.
Like much of Botoșani County, the area around Călărași is characterised by agricultural land and a landscape of rolling hills and valleys. The city is connected to other parts of the county by road, with the county seat, Botoșani, located to the north-west.
