Avram Iancu is a commune in Bihor County, in the Crișana region of northwestern Romania. It lies in the western part of the county, near the border with Hungary, in a rural area of low hills and farmland. The commune is made up of several villages and is named after Avram Iancu, the Transylvanian Romanian lawyer and revolutionary leader.
The commune's name honours Avram Iancu, a Transylvanian Romanian lawyer who played an important role in the local chapter of the Austrian Empire Revolutions of 1848–1849. He was especially active in the Țara Moților region and the Apuseni Mountains, and the rallying of peasants around him, as well as his allegiance to the Habsburg monarchy, earned him the moniker Crăișorul Munților.
Avram Iancu is not to be confused with other places bearing the same name, including the village of Avram Iancu in Alba County and the commune of Avram Iancu in Cluj County. The Bihor County commune is a separate administrative unit in the Crișana region.
