Saint-Joseph is a commune located on the extreme south end of the island of Réunion, a French overseas department in the Indian Ocean. The commune is notable for containing the southernmost point of the European Union, a geographic distinction resulting from Réunion's status as an overseas territory of France. The village of Vincendo is administratively part of the commune.
As a southern coastal settlement, Saint-Joseph occupies a geographically significant position within the French territory. Its extreme southern location makes it an important reference point for understanding the geographic extent of the European Union, which extends much further south through its overseas territories than its continental boundaries suggest.
