Magsaysay is a municipality in the province of Palawan, within the Mimaropa region of the Philippines. It is located in the southern part of Palawan, on the island's western coast facing the South China Sea.
The town is named after Ramon del Fierro Magsaysay Sr., the seventh president of the Philippines, who served from 1953 until his death in a plane crash in Cebu on March 17, 1957. Magsaysay was the first Philippine president born in the 20th century and the first born after the Spanish colonial era; he was succeeded in office by Carlos P. Garcia.
Magsaysay is one of several places in the Philippines named for the former president. It lies along the coastal road network of southern Palawan, a predominantly rural area whose economy rests on agriculture and fishing.
