Rizal is a city in the Cagayan Valley region of the Philippines. It is one of the municipalities and cities that make up the province of Nueva Vizcaya, located in the northern part of the country on the island of Luzon.
The city is situated in an inland area of the Cagayan Valley, a large valley in northeastern Luzon drained by the Cagayan River, the longest river in the Philippines. The surrounding region is predominantly agricultural, with rice and corn among the main crops grown in the valley.
Rizal shares its name with the province of Rizal in the Calabarzon region, which lies east of Manila and is named after the national hero José Rizal. The two are distinct places: the province of Rizal is a separate administrative unit in southern Luzon, while the city of Rizal is part of Nueva Vizcaya in the Cagayan Valley.
