Vilcabamba

Peru

Vilcabamba, also spelled Willkapampa, is a town in the Pasco region of Peru. The name comes from Quechua and means "sacred plain."

The town shares its name with the better-known Vilcabamba associated with the Inca "Lost City," but the two are distinct places in different parts of the country. The Inca ruins known as Vilcabamba are located in the Echarate District of La Convención Province in the Cuzco Region, and the modern name for those ruins is Espíritu Pampa.

Vilcabamba in Pasco is a separate settlement, and it should not be confused with the Cuzco Region site of the same name.
