Nazca is a city and system of valleys located on the southern coast of Peru. It serves as the largest settlement within the Nazca Province.
The name of the city is derived from the Nazca culture, which flourished in the region between 100 BC and AD 800. This cultural group is noted for creating the Nazca Lines and the ceremonial city of Cahuachi.
The area is also characterized by a regional system of underground aqueducts known as puquios, which are still functional today. While these structures were constructed by the Nazca people, the earliest puquios are believed to have been built by the preceding Paracas culture.
