Conchamarca

Peru

Conchamarca is a city in the Huánuco Department of central Peru. It serves as the district seat of the Conchamarca District within the province of Ambo, situated in the Andean highlands of the country's central interior.

The settlement lies in a mountainous region typical of the Peruvian sierra, at an elevation of roughly 2,000 metres above sea level. Like much of the surrounding Huánuco countryside, the area is characterised by a temperate highland climate and a landscape of steep slopes and river valleys.

Conchamarca remains a small administrative and agricultural centre rather than a major tourist destination, and detailed published information about the city itself is limited. It should not be confused with the similarly named archaeological site Qunchamarka in the Cusco Region, which lies on the Inca Trail between Sayaqmarka and Phuyupatamarka, southwest of the mountain Runkuraqay.
