Urubamba

Peru

Urubamba is a small town in Peru and the capital of the district of the same name. It lies in the Cuzco Department, near the Urubamba River and beneath the snow-capped mountain Chicón.

Located about one hour from Cusco, Urubamba is the largest town in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. It sits near a number of significant ruins of the Inca Empire, including Machu Picchu, and the sparse remains of the Inca palace Quispiguanca are within the town itself. Tourists often pass through Urubamba on their way to visit these sites.
