Mollepata

Peru

Mollepata is a district in the Anta Province of the Cuzco Department in Peru. It is one of nine districts that make up the province, located in the country's southern highlands.

The area is best known as the starting point for the Mollepata trek, also called the Salkantay trek, which serves as an alternative route to the Inca Trail leading toward Machu Picchu. The route passes through the Vilcabamba Range, running from Mollepata to Santa Teresa.

The Mollepata trek is generally considered more difficult than the Classic Inca Trail, owing to its high altitude and remote terrain.
