Chirinos

Peru

Chirinos is a town in the Cajamarca Department of northern Peru. It lies in the province of San Ignacio, in the country's far northern highlands near the border with Ecuador. Like much of the Cajamarca region, the surrounding area is mountainous, with an economy based largely on agriculture.

The Cajamarca Department is one of Peru's northern regions, known for its Andean terrain and for being the setting of the 1532 encounter between the Inca emperor Atahualpa and the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro. Chirinos itself is a small settlement within this broader region rather than a major urban centre.

Detailed, well-established information about Chirinos specifically is limited, and it should not be confused with the Spanish surname of the same name, which is shared by a number of notable public figures.
