Chachapoyas is a city in northern Peru and the capital of the Amazonas region. It sits at an elevation of 2,335 meters (7,661 ft) in mountainous terrain far from the Peruvian coast. The city had a population of 32,026 people as of 2017.
Because of its location in the mountains, Chachapoyas remains fairly isolated from other regions of Peru. It is served by buses to Chiclayo and Cajamarca, and by flights to domestic destinations from Chachapoyas Airport.
