Rio Grande

Panama

Rio Grande is a city located in the Ngöbe-Buglé Comarca, an indigenous region in Panama. The Ngöbe-Buglé Comarca is a semi-autonomous territory established to protect the rights and lands of the Ngöbe and Buglé indigenous peoples.

The city sits within one of Panama's most culturally distinct regions, where indigenous traditions and languages remain prevalent among the local population. The Ngöbe-Buglé Comarca encompasses mountainous terrain in western Panama, and Rio Grande is situated in this geographically challenging area.

Like other settlements in the comarca, Rio Grande serves as a local community hub for the indigenous populations of the region, though it remains relatively undeveloped compared to Panama's urban centers.
