Karori

New Zealand

Karori is a suburb situated at the western edge of the urban area of Wellington, New Zealand. It is located approximately 4 kilometres from the city centre and ranks as one of the most populous suburbs in the country, with a recorded population of 15,100 in June 2025.

The area was settled by Europeans in the 1840s; notably, no Māori lived in the region at that time. The first settler established the area by clearing 20 acres of forest on his section with his younger brother, Moses, and advertised the land for sale in December 1841.
