Pukekohe East is a locality situated within the Auckland region of New Zealand. The area is historically noted for its role during the New Zealand Wars, specifically during the Invasion of the Waikato.
The site was the location of the Defence of Pukekohe East in September 1863. During this engagement, a small group consisting of eleven settlers and six militia men occupied a half-completed stockade near a local church. They successfully defended the position against a Māori war party of approximately 200 men from the Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngāti Pou iwi.
The defense continued until the group was relieved by detachments from the 18th, 65th, and 70th Regiments. Following a series of actions around the stockade, the attacking force sustained casualties of approximately 20% before retreating.
