Asaba is the capital city of Delta State in Nigeria, positioned on the western bank of the Niger River. It serves as the administrative center for both the Oshimili South Local Government Area and the Delta State Capital Territory, functioning as the seat of state government operations.

The city has experienced rapid urbanization in recent decades. According to the 2006 census, Asaba had a population of 149,603, though the metropolitan area has since grown to over half a million people, reflecting its status as a major urban center in the Niger Delta region.
