Ikot Ekpene, also known as The Raffia City, is a historic town located in Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria's south-southern region. The town serves as the political and cultural capital of the Annang ethnic group. Situated on the A342 highway that runs parallel to the coast, Ikot Ekpene lies between Calabar to the southeast and Aba to the west, with Uyo, the state capital, located just to the east on the same road. Umuahia is the next major town to the north.
The town's nickname, The Raffia City, reflects its historical significance in the raffia trade, which has long been central to the local economy and culture. According to 2022 estimates, the Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area had a population of approximately 180,500, making it a notable urban center in the region.
