San Salvador is a town and municipality in the state of Hidalgo, located in central-eastern Mexico. It is one of 84 municipalities within the state and covers an area of 200.4 square kilometers (77.4 square miles).
The municipality serves as an administrative division of Hidalgo, functioning as both a town center and the governing body for its surrounding region. Like other municipalities in the state, it represents a local administrative unit within Mexico's political structure.
