Mchinji is a town situated in the Central Region of Malawi. It serves as the administrative capital of the Mchinji District.

The local area, known as Mchinji Boma, functions as the primary hub for government and general business activities. It is located approximately 109 kilometers (68 miles) from Lilongwe, the national capital, and sits just 12 kilometers from the Zambian border.
