Rabat is a town in the Western Region of Malta, with a population of 12,329 as of July 2024. The town adjoins Mdina, Malta's ancient capital city, and historically a north-western part of Rabat was encompassed within the Roman city of Melite until its medieval contraction.
The town's population comprises 6,249 males and 6,080 females, of which 10,996 are Maltese nationals and 1,333 are foreign nationals. Its proximity to Mdina and its position within the historically significant Western Region make Rabat an area of archaeological and cultural importance on the island.
