Arafat is a suburb of Nouakchott and an urban commune in western Mauritania. It lies within the Nouakchott-Sud (Nouakchott South) Region, of which it serves as the capital.
The commune had a population of 216,919 in 2023, making it one of the larger urban communes in the Nouakchott metropolitan area. As a suburb of the national capital, it forms part of the wider urban agglomeration surrounding Nouakchott.
