Slobozia, also known as Slobodzeya, is a city in the Republic of Moldova that lies under the de facto control of the unrecognized state of Transnistria. It is the seat of the Slobozia District of Transnistria.
The city is located in the Transnistria region, a strip of territory along the eastern side of Moldova that has been outside the effective control of the Moldovan government since the early 1990s. Its dual naming reflects the competing administrative claims over the area: Slobozia is the Romanian-language form, while Slobodzeya is the Russian-language form used by the Transnistrian authorities.
As the administrative center of its district, Slobozia serves as a local seat of government within the Transnistrian administrative structure. The city's status remains tied to the broader unresolved question of Transnistria's political position, which is internationally recognized as part of Moldova.
