Dangjin is a city located in the South Chungcheong Province of South Korea. Situated on the southern shore of the Bay of Asan, the city shares land borders with Seosan, Yesan, and Asan, while it is bordered by Incheon, Pyeongtaek, and Hwaseong by sea.
The name Dangjin translates to "Tang ferry," a reference to the historical significance of its harbor in connecting Korea to the other side of the Yellow Sea. Today, the city's economy remains supported by this maritime connection alongside a combination of agriculture and heavy industry. Notably, the city shares the same Hanja characters (唐津市) as Karatsu in Japan.
