Murang'a is a town located in Murang'a County, Kenya. It serves as the administrative headquarters for the county and is primarily inhabited by the Kikuyu community.
The settlement originated as Fort Hall, a British colonial trading post and administrative center established in the early 1900s. Named after the British colonial administrator Francis George Hall, the fort functioned as a strategic military and administrative hub during the colonial period. Following Kenya's independence, the area was renamed Murang'a.
The region is historically significant for its role during the Mau Mau insurrection, which was notably strong in this specific area.
