Makindu is a town in Makueni County, Kenya. It is located in the country's eastern region, within the former Eastern Province.
The town lies along the Mombasa–Nairobi highway, a major transport corridor that connects the port city of Mombasa with the capital, Nairobi. This position has made Makindu a stopping point for travellers and freight traffic moving between the coast and the interior.
Makindu is also known for the Makindu Sikh Temple, a landmark established by Sikhs who settled in the area during the construction of the Uganda Railway in the early twentieth century. The temple continues to offer meals and lodging to travellers passing through the town.
