Namerikawa is a city located in the eastern part of Toyama Prefecture in Japan. Established on March 1, 1954, the city covers a total area of 54.63 square kilometers. As of January 1, 2024, it had an estimated population of 32,728 residents living in 12,372 households, resulting in a population density of approximately 605 persons per square kilometer.
The coastal waters of Namerikawa are recognized as a Special Natural Monument by the Japanese government. This designation is due to the area serving as the habitat for the world-famous glowing firefly squid, which surface annually in a notable natural phenomenon.
