Kōchi is the capital city of Kōchi Prefecture, located on the island of Shikoku in Japan. As the prefecture's primate city, it serves as the main commercial and industrial centre, accounting for over 40% of the prefectural population. The city covers a total area of 309.00 square kilometres (119.31 square miles).
As of April 2023, Kōchi had an estimated population of 311,224 residents living in 163,479 households, resulting in a population density of 1,000 persons per square kilometre. The city functions as the economic and administrative hub of Kōchi Prefecture.
