Amami is a city situated on the island of Amami Ōshima within the Kagoshima Prefecture of Japan. It serves as the most populated municipality on the island and covers a total area of 308.15 square kilometers.
The city features a primary urban center and main port known as Naze. As of October 1, 2020, the municipality had an estimated population of 41,390 residents, resulting in a population density of approximately 134 persons per square kilometer.
