Iwai was a city located in the Ibaraki Prefecture of Japan. It is situated within the northern part of the prefecture and serves as a regional center.
The municipality was merged into the neighboring city of Hitachi on November 1, 2006, as part of a municipal merger. While it no longer exists as an independent administrative entity, the area remains a recognized geographical location within the Ibaraki region.
