Itako is a city situated in the Ibaraki Prefecture of Japan. Covering a total area of 71.40 square kilometers, the city maintains a population density of approximately 365 persons per square kilometer. As of November 2024, it had an estimated population of 26,063 residents living in 10,849 households, with over 32% of the population aged 65 or older.
The city is geographically significant as much of its territory lies within the boundaries of the Suigo-Tsukuba Quasi-National Park. Itako is also recognized for its annual iris festival, which serves as a notable local cultural event.
